Trike Motorcycle Collides with Las Vegas School Bus

A Friday morning bus ride for Las Vegas students was stopped abruptly when a trike motorcycle collided with the bus on the southwest side of town.  Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) is investigating the accident that resulted in both motorcycle riders being taken to local hospitals for injuries.

NHP reported that the bus was making a left turn when the trike motorcycle collided into the middle of the school bus near the back tire. (Channel 8 News Report: Crash Involving School Bus and Motorcycle)

The law states that a vehicle making a left turn must wait to turn until it can safely do so.  This law usually places the driver who was making a left turn prior to an accident liable and at fault.

There are a few exceptions to the rule:

  • The vehicle traveling straight ran a stop sign or red light.
  • The vehicle traveling straight was speeding.
  • For safety reasons the left turning vehicle had to slow down and stop mid turn.
