Approximately 360 people die each year as a result of wrong-way driver collisions (source: National Transportation Safety Board).  To help reduce the number of wrong-way driver car accidents and fatalities, the Safe America Foundation recommends the following five defensive driving tactics:
  1. Swerve to the right if there is a vehicle driving at you in the wrong-direction.
  2. Look ahead at least a quarter of a mile for possible danger.
  3. Show your intentions to wrong-way drivers by using light signals.
  4. Buckle-up &look out for the safety of others.
  5. Do not drive on the wrong side of the road.
The Safe America Foundation also suggests that if you pass a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road to immediately pull over and call 911 to report the incident to the highway patrol / police.
